Northern Light Hotel
The Northern Light Hotel is built on a foundation of profound respect for the delicate Arctic ecosystem, prioritizing the preservation of the landscape over architectural monumentality.
The project employs a site-responsive radial layout and an elevated stilt system inspired by traditional coastal "Notheng" structures, allowing the natural terrain and drainage patterns to remain completely undisturbed.
By lifting the building above the bedrock, the design minimizes its physical footprint and protects the fragile local flora from the impact of construction and daily operations, ensuring the project exists in harmony with its wild surroundings.
The guest journey is centered on a "front-row seat to nature," offering an immersive experience where the architecture serves as a quiet lens for the dramatic shifts in light and weather. Every room is designed as a private observatory, providing intimate views of the midnight sun and the aurora borealis, as the transition from shared social spaces to quiet, private sanctuaries fosters a profound sensory connection to the raw beauty of Lofoten.
This vision is realized through the selection of carbon-storing timber and geothermal energy, ensuring a minimal ecological footprint that preserves the untamed character of the landscape.
